Gaby's Before and After photos! This is my fave post.

Gaby
Gosh I'm excited to put these pictures on our blog. It's been 2 years since I decided it was time to change my life. Meaning the way I eat and live my life. I didn't know what was going to happen or how but now Jan. 2010 I'm 100% Raw Vegan and I'm never going back!

              Then '09      And        Now 2010

I went from 190lbs to my current weight 160!
I started Jan. out at 164lbs. This is the first time I've been completely raw for 30days. I feel great it gets easier and easier. I can go out with friends for dinner and what I can't have doesn't even faze me. I only want to have what I no will give me nutrition. I'm sleeping better. I run faster. Everthings better. Sometimes I feel that i'm going through detox but it's not so bad. Detox for me is alot of gas, emotion, some tiredness. I broke out alittle but nothing serious. My poops are amazing. I'm not as hungry as everyone around me which I think is good.

1st Day of 365days as Raw Foodists!

Our 1st day raw was not any different than our other 1st days raw. We began the day with a sense of purpose and a rumbling of cooked food in our bowels. The day before which happened to be New Years Eve we indulged in the splendors of cooked food.

1st we ate sausage and eggs. Next I moved on to grilled cheese, seasoned fries and mozzarella sticks, while Gaby ate a “healthy” stack of pancakes. A couple hours before midnight we ate a slice of pizza each and then repeated that process a couple minutes before midnight. We knew we would pay the price the next day but we figured what the hell since for the next 365 days we would be eating nothing but raw foods. And we did pay the price! We woke up and for the life of us could not take a decent poop. Knowing what our poop should look like we looked at each other with ashamed eyes with a shimmer of hope. No need to talk about how it looked cause we both knew.

Our raw day began. Not wanting much to eat when we woke because of the crap we consumed the day before was still in our gut. Even though we have been staying up ‘til 2am consistently and still rising at a decent hour, this morning was different. We rose at 2 pm! I haven never been that sluggish. The only thing that I can link it to is eating the way I did the previous day. Not eating any fruits or veggies like we have been doing 7 months really took its toll on us. We paid for EVERY bite.

We ate a small salad at about 4 pm then headed over to my parents house to give back the borrowed car and say hello in person for the first time of the new year. Upon arrival the door to the house swung open and the flavor in the air spilled out. Instantly my mouth started to water and my taste buds new exactly what had been prepared in the house.

Immediately my mom Angela says, “You hungry? Do you want me to warm up your greens?” A little frustrated by the lack of edible food because I put the word out several weeks ago and up to the day before that we were going raw for a year this time. Since my mom was around for the 1st stint of going raw and seeing me fail within the 1st week she thought it would be no big deal just to eat some food. Mind you the greens were a week old which is a big no-no. Surveying the pots on the stove I saw a slew of fresh cooked greens and black eyed peas…the tradition in the Southern black household on New Years. I might have entertained the thought of eating “just a taste” of this delicious food but it was also cooked Southern style…with lots of meat. Needless to say we held out on eating there even though I felt like the hunger was eating through my stomach and trying to eat those week old greens.

To hold the mental food famine off we indulge in a glass of wine or two. We were able to enjoy our selves for a couple of hours before heading off to the closest health food store. To our dismay the store was closed, so we drove as fast as a Florida lighting strike to the Whole Foods store in Tampa. We were as happy as vegan at Grass Root when we saw it was open. Buying what we needed with the money we had we scampered to the car eager to back to a counter where we could prep our salad. Once home we basically threw everything together and ate like a caveman who stumbled on to tree that produced turkey thighs. Hopefully the next day we will be more prepared.
